A Note From Sunshine Piggy Rescue
After much reflection, Sunshine Piggy Rescue has officially closed its doors.
What began as a small effort to help a few guinea pigs in need grew into something far greater — a community built on compassion, education, and advocacy for an often-overlooked species. Over the years, it has been an honor to rescue, rehabilitate, and place countless guinea pigs into loving homes, as well as to work alongside amazing adopters, supporters, and organizations who shared the same mission.
This decision was not made lightly. Rescue work requires an immense amount of time, travel, emotional energy, and personal sacrifice. As life has evolved — with career growth, education, and family responsibilities — it became clear that stepping back was necessary in order to maintain balance and be fully present in this next season of life.
I am incredibly proud of what was accomplished through Sunshine Piggy Rescue. From saving lives to helping educate the public, and even have one our our rescues serving as a guinea pig ambassador through community outreach, this journey has been more meaningful than words can express.
While the rescue is no longer active, my love and respect for these animals remains. I’m grateful to know that Florida now has more guinea pig rescues and resources than ever before — a sign that awareness and compassion continue to grow.
Thank you to everyone who supported, adopted, volunteered, donated, or simply cared. This community made all of this possible, and I will always carry it with me.
With gratitude,
Nelly
